Alberto & Associates redesigned an underutilized retail center and added a residential community to an adjacent parcel in Ventnor Heights, NJ. The renovations for the 200,000 square foot retail center included façade retrofits, the creation of a central gathering space, pedestrian amenities, outdoor dining space and a more efficient parking layout. The residential community consisted of 360 units and included mid-rise residential buildings over a parking structure, a terraced community garden and amenities including a clubhouse, pool, landscaped entry and walking trail. This project is consistent with a growing trend of adding additional uses (residential, office, etc.) to derelict retail centers to rejuvenate the retail center and spurn growth in the local economy.
